Vanilla is the only member of the Orchid family used in aromatherapy. The cost of this oil means that it can be difficult to find unadulterated. This is another of those plant parts whose scent only develops after a process. The seed pods are picked and are fermented rather than merely dried. This fermentation process allows the Vanillin to develop. The smell of Vanilla is familiar to everyone and the product is used widely as a flavoring additive and to scent many products.

A supplier from years ago called to let me know they had some impressive Vanilla they thought I would appreciate. This Vanilla is solvent extracted. The oleoresin is chocolate brown, thick and pourable. The first smell is fruity and fleeting. A perfumer could probably get that smell to stay a while. It
