An incision in the bark produces the exudation of an oleoresin which is then SD or a resinoid achieved by solvent extraction. May be called Bisabol Myrrh or Sweet Myrrh. Opoponox tends to become resin-like with prolonged exposure to the air. It is used mainly as a fixative in perfumes. Opoponox can be added to a facial oil for aging skin. It can be used to encourage the healing of inflamed skin, wet eczema and boils. Opoponox is an expectorant, remember that it is very thick and will clog a diffusor. Opoponox means “all healing vegetable juicy”. This is one of the most ancient essential oils.
