Lemon Myrtle

Organic from Australia. Lemon Myrtle is higher in citral (up to 95%) than any of the citrus oils. Citrals are very bacteriacidal and fungicidal. Best used in airborne blends because the oil is an irritant. It smells super lemony. It can be used by the experienced to treat acne either in a facial oil or in a clay mask. I bet that it would be an effective insect deterrent as well, a cotton-ball with a few drops placed outside the door where the ants want to come in out of the rain. Hmmm...I'll have to remember that . Named after the English botanist, James Backhouse.
Studies at the School of Biomedical Sciences, Wagga Wagga, NSW Australia show that the antimicrobial activity of B. citriodora essential oil was found to be greater than that of citral alone and often superior to Melaleuca alternifolia essential oil against Alcaligenes faecilis, Mycobacterium phlei, Staphylococcus aureus, Fusearium graminearum, Microsporum gypsium, Trichophyton mentrgrophytes and Trichophyton rubrum. The publication states that B. citriodora has significant antimicrobial activity and has potential as an antiseptic or surface disinfectant or for inclusion in foods as a natural antimicrobial agent.
